UPDATE: Please read the comments
Pechanga has tried to get a Compact amendment through Congress without the vote of the people of California. As a sovereign nation, trying to do business with our state, they should not be rewarded for violating their citizens civil rights and human rights. Quite simply, California chose not to do business with South Africa because they denied their citizens civil rights, we should do the same for a nation in our own backyard that does the same.
In fact, Californians should STOP doing business with that entity. The city of Temecula will turn their backs on people whose rights are violated for a few hundred thousand a year? Don't reward Pechanga for wrongdoing, reward them when they do the right thing. Riverside county, stand up for HUMAN RIGHTS.

Proposition 94
1260. (07-0037)
Referendum Petition to Overturn Amendment to Indian Gaming Compact.
Proponent: Jack Gribbon
If this petition is signed by the required number of registered voters and timely filed with the Secretary of State, it will stop the law (Chapter 40, Statutes of 2007) from going into effect, unless a majority of voters at the next statewide election vote in its favor. The challenged law ratifies an amendment to an existing gaming compact between the state and Pechanga Band of LuiseƱo Mission Indians; exempts certain projects from the California Environmental Quality Act; requires that revenue paid by tribe be deposited in the General Fund. My view is this,as I expressed months ago on my blog :
As mentioned on other sites, tribal sovereignty is something that should be nurtured and cherished.
Many now believe that the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Mission Indians from Temecula, CA will be responsible for the quick erosion of sovereignty, that tribes have fought for for centuries.
The question was asked, "what could be done?". Frankly, economic sanctions of another nation, plus public embarrassment may be the only course of action that is effective. For instance, in South Africa, it was their SOVEREIGN RIGHT as a free nation to impose apartheid on their country. What recourse did civilized countries use to bring down this hateful policy? Economic sanctions and world ridicule of the policy. No trade, no travel, no money. Final result, end of apartheid and a welcome back to South Africa into the world community.
Similarly, citizens of the United States can impose their own economic sanctions on the Tribal Nation of Pechanga by boycotting their nation. Stop patronizing their casino, hotel, restaurants and their powwows. Let them know that we do not agree with their system of denying civil rights to their people and until they follow their own tribal law, citizens of our country will NOT support their nation, but will patronize their competitor nations. Pechanga understands how this well affect their pocketbook
Also, letting state and federal representatives know that we expect them not to support a nation that would treat its citizens this way, especially NOT to allow them increased monetary benefits by expanding their casino slot machines. Readers, there are 250 members of the band that were disenrolled and 500 people who are caught in Pechanga's illegal moratorium (illegal in that SOVEREIGN nation, against the sovereign nation of Pechanga's own constitution) Pechanga deserves no reward for their violations of their people

My family will vote no on 94 and ask all of our friends to do the same.
Additionally, we will be contacting reunion companies asking that they do not use Pechanga. Will the Automobile Club take our concerns as well?
