NAACP Supports Civil Rights Violators II
As previously discussed here, the NAACP is supporting the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Mission Indians in their big to expand gaming. Pechanga is a well know violator of the civil rights of their people. How can the NAACP stand with them? Why wouldn't the support enforcing ICRA? Please, NAACP of CA. Take a look at what Pechanga has done to 25% of their tribe. Support the other propositions if you feel they are right, but No on 94 is the way to go in February. At minimum change your Mission Statement to "we are no longer seeking enactment and enforcement of federal, state and local laws securing civil rights as long as Tribes give us some money, or as long as they give our favorite politician a handout."
Here's the NAACP Mission Statement:
NAACP Mission Statement
The NAACP’s principal objective is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority citizens of the United States and eliminate race prejudice. The NAACP seeks to remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes. This mission is accomplished by seeking the enactment and enforcement of federal, state and local laws securing civil rights, and by informing the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination. From school desegregation, fair housing, employment and voter registration, top health and equal economic opportunity, the NAACP is working successfully with allies of all races, plays a significant role in establishing legal precedents in order to improve the quality of life of America’s downtrodden.
UPDATE: There will be a letter coming from a representative of AIRRO asking the CA NAACP to rescind their support of the Pechanga Band's Prop. 94.

it does not suprise me. I know we are getting the word out, but our efforts sometimes seem mute. Another fax and email blast, targeting these groups, and congressional leaders along with media. Keep up the good work.
They are either unaware of the rights abusese going on in the tribes like Pechanga or they are just another political hack organization that gives lip service to civil rights but can be bought off.
Since Diane Watson is aware of our situation, we should contact her about the NAACP's endorsement of all the of the Big four's gaming compacts.
I am sure they would listen to what she has to say.
We should also write and call the NAACP directly.
Here is the web addy for contacting the CA NAACP:

Thanks for the link.
The interest of the committee (any committee or organization involved with Indian gamming) is fairness of economic exchange and profitability for the tribes, in that, they the government entities know that government funding is dependent on how well the tribes do in paying their fair share. Everybody wants to put their hand in the preverbal cookie jar. Hey, Indian gamming is the golden calf Look how the Govenator of California has dismissed the voice of the people of CA by writing a letter to the applet court that ruled in favor to keep the casino expansion propositions on the ballot. Is he a man of the people? He would ignore a populous vote to decide what is best for CA, in favor of the promise of riches that Californians and those who visit our state would end up paying for any ways. My point is we the minority have only our voice to fight back with and one vote to counter the madness and corruption that tribes like Pechanga can buy.wyupu
I will be drafting a letter to the NAACP asking them to rescind their support of Pechanga Compact based on the tribe's history of human and civil rights violations. It is our responsibility to notify and educate organizations like the NAACP that these rights violations are occurring and see if they will live upto their mission statement. Just as with every other letter writing campaign, the more who get involved and eax, email or send in the letter, the better.
