No On Pechanga's Prop. 94: Low voter awareness helps casinos

Article

LOW VOTER AWARENESS of Term Limits and Indian Gaming California Propositions 27 December 2007
BY MARK Di CAMILLO AND MERVIN FIELD
Apparently lost in the media focus on the presidential race are a number of statewide ballot propositions that California voters will be asked to decide within the next six weeks.

Awareness is also low (27%) regarding four referenda to approve or overturn four Indian casino compacts recently approved the state legislature and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and which will appear on the February ballot as Propositions 94, 95, 96, and 97.

ALSO: they are initially supportive by varying margins – 50% to 32% with regard to the term limits modification, and 39% to 33% in relation to the Indian gaming compacts.

Still time to convince your friends and neighbors to vote NO on expanded gaming.

  1. Good luck in your fight, hope you are victorious!

Tribal gaming was supposed to help all natives in CA. Too bad the greedy tribes like Chukchansi and Pechanga did not live up to their promises.

  2. Tribal gaming is helping only the select few in some tribes.
Interesting how the schools around Temecula will sell out people for $50,000 ....

  3. The information battle is heating up. Lot's more articles coming out about CA's budget.

  4. Anti-Native Americans make me sick! Native Americans ARE NOT U.S. Citizens unless they leave the reservations. Reservation land IS NOT U.S. soil. Telling them what they can or cannot do on their own land is like telling a foreign government what they can or cannot do in their own country. Why do you begrudge the Native Americans for achieving the "American Dream" after living in poverty for centuries? I don't believe we have a right to any of their earnings just like we can't claim any of Nevada's earnings from Californians who gamble there or in any other part of the world.

  5. Native Americans are US Citizens.

    Reservation land is Federal property.

Your analogy is incorrect in comparing it to another country.

Nobody begrudges Native Americans for achieving the American dream. We begrudge the Pechanga Tribal council for taking the American Dream away from 25% of it's members, and for not allowing 500 or so Pechanga blood from their rightful place in the sun.

If you earn money by winning in Nevada, you will have to claim it on your CA income tax.

    Thanks for your comments.
