I'd like to present a song, written by my cousin, that expresses the sad situation of paper genocide practiced by Pechanga and other tribes in California. This is a great way to present my 200th blog post.
A PAPER GENOCIDE (LAMENT OF THE DISENROLLED INDIAN) WORDS BY 'AMO'KAT: To the tune of Indian Reservation, originally by Paul Revere and the Raiders
WE WERE ONE INDIAN NATION
WHEN THEY PUT US ON OUR RESERVATION
WE WERE AT ONE WITH THE LAND
MADE OUR HOMES WHEN THERE WAS ONLY SAND
WE WERE ONE LAND WE WERE ONE TRIBE
NO CASINO JUST NATIVE PRIDE
BUT SOME OF OUR FRIENDS WE HAD FOR YEARS
CAUSED A PAPER TRAIL OF TEARS
CASINO PEOPLE
SHAMEFUL TRIBE
BETRAYED YOUR OWN
A PAPER GENOCIDE
JUST A FEW YEARS AGO
WE WERE ALL UNITED IN A COMMON GOAL
TO PAVE A WAY TO A BETTER LIFE
BUT OUR SUCCESS IT BROUGHT STRIFE
CASINO PEOPLE
SHAMEFUL TRIBE
DESTROYED YOUR OWN
A PAPER GENOCIDE
MAYBE SOMEDAY WHEN THEY'VE LEARNED
THEN THEIR PEOPLE WILL RETURN
WILL RETURN
WILL RETURN
WILL RETURN
WILL RETURN
Vote no on 94 because of Pechanga's disgraceful actions of paper genocide on their people. Vote no on the other propositions because we Californians did NOT get a great deal.

Although the idea for these words came from the fact that I am one of hundreds of disenrolled members from Pechanga, let us not forget that it is also about the thousands of others who have been kicked out of other tribes and many of those other tribes are gaming tribes too.
I realize that we still have friends in the tribe so this song is not directed at those friends but it is how I feel about the situation.
Notice how I say, "some of our friends we had for years caused a paper trail of tears."
Because we do feel betrayed by "some of the friends" we thought we had.
The part about "just a few years ago we were all united in a common goal" is about how I felt when we were all working for the passage of the propostitions that legalzed Vegas style gaming on California reservations.
It did feel like we were working as a team for the good of the people.
WHAT HAPPENED?
I like your words 'amo'cat. They are so appropiate... RIGHT ON
