Local law enforcement say the Soboba Reservation in southern California is too dangerous but that's not stopping a member of President Bush's Cabinet from speaking there on Friday.
Well technically, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne will appear at the golf club owned by the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians. But the property is adjacent to the reservation and WELL WITHIN BULLET RANGE (especially from the assault type weapons fired at Sheriff's Deputies recently) from the tribe's casino, which local law enforcement claim is unsafe.
Kempthorne will speak about H.R.4841, the Soboba Band of LuiseƱo Indians Settlement Act of 2007, which was signed into law earlier this month. The bill provides $29 million and up to 2 billion gallons of water a year for the tribe and settles a 75-year-old dispute.
Good for Kempthorne. Dirk, will you address the civil rights violations by California tribes, like Pechanga and Picayune? The Freedmen issue?

Probably not OP. he will be wined and dined and will not have time for little things like civil rights abuses. That will not be on his list.
Does the Interior Secretary always make a trip like this to speak about all the H.R. bills that are passed or was he needing a California vacation (on the Indians)?
judging by the hatred in your words, trust me, you have no "indian" in you. I'm guessing that you've been disinrolled from a tribe, just a wild guess here, but maybe you didn't belong and were rightfully ousted.
anonymus POSTED ON AUG.20..... the words "YOU DON'T BELONG", they sound so familiar, so i'm thinking that you are a Pechanga Tribal NITWIT WHO IS JUST REPEATING WHAT HE WAS TOLD BY THE CORRUPT "LEADERS" OF HIS TRIBE. The hatred is in YOUR words. You speak like a low life. It is clear that you are not a true Native,' cause if you where you would not sell out your brothers and sisters - all you relations. We can see and " trust me" there is no "Indian" in you.
I don't understand how these people can bash you guys for trying to get what is legally AND morally yours....and I would bet that the ones that bash you are still getting their 30 thousand a month...it is a threat to their per capita that they can't stand .....and they feel you must be trashed....I blame some of this stuff on our Government for letting the tribes get away with this stuff in the first place...you would think that the tribes would be thrilled with finally getting the cash cow in the form of the Casinos and be happy to spread the wealth..instead they get all greedy and become everything that an Indian is supposed to be opposed to......how many of the tribe members drive huge SUV's which are guzzling gas and ruining the environment??..oh wait...wasn't it the Pechnaga tribe that lied about preserving the environment and Indian artifacts and instead built a water wasting golf course??..and to all you bashers...I am not tribal...but an ex-Pechanga patron..who believes in human rights...which your tribe has stampeded over.

I understand why some feel this way, you have to understand that it is a longstanding tribal tradition to NOT discuss internal tribal matters outside the tribe. It is for this reason that I had remained somewhat closed mouth on the matter for several years, but what needs to be understood is that by removing us from the tribe they themselfs have taken what was a internal matter and pushed it outside the tribe, by placing us outside the tribe. I really wish that it could have remained inside the tribe, but we ourselves can no longer participate internally in tribal matters.
I cringe every time I write something and try my best not to badmouth my tribe itself, but only the very small portion which calls itself the CPP. Those who by nefarious means have taken control of the tribe, and brought about shame and disgrace to it.
Apparently our latest anonymous critic thinks "real Indians" lobby public officials with their money and tell congress and the Dept of Interior one thing about not doing any changes to the land and then do another by tearing up ecologically sensitive habitat by putting in a water guzzling golf course on the very land they swore to protect.
I am not sure where our "anonymous friend" gets the idea that we are being hateful by questioning why the Sec. of Interior is at Soboba.
I guess the "new real Indians" have learned their lessons about how to influence public officials to get what they want and we "fake Indians," in Anonymous's mind anyway, can't say anything about it.
