We are hearing that there will be a request for and oversight hearing into the enforcement of the Indian Civil Rights Act (ICRA)
With civil rights coming into focus, thanks to the AZ immigration law, it's high time that Congress have these hearings.
Due to the arbitrary and capricious actions tribes are taking against their own people. We hope to have confirmation of the request shortly. Indian Self Reliance was not meant to destroy Native Americans, which is what tribes like Pechanga, Picayune, Redding have done.

I just finnished reading an amazing story in AIRRO.ORG. the man who blew the whistle on Jack Abramoff, this man is an American Indian who had the guts to stand up to one of the most powerful people in Wasington D.C. and expose the corruption, it's a must read for everyone who is fighting corruption, in the end the good guy wins and the bad guy goes to prison.
Please include the Snoqualmie Tribal Council in this ...."which is what tribes like Pechanga, Picayune, Redding and the Snoqualmie Tribal Council have done."
This issue is not just California as many people wrongfully think. Well over 1/5 of tribes across the nation are wrongfully disenrolling/banishing members and we cannot let people forget these evil actions or think this is just a "California problem". This is everyone's problem when anyone's civil rights are violated.
The ICRA is inextricably tied to Santa Clara Pueblo v Martinez and the Indian Child Welfare Act. I've always thought that if the chronology of those three events had been different, the Indian Civil Rights Act would be a whole different animal than what it is today, which is basically a federal "Blue Law."
In the general sense, our parents retain the full authority to determine the citizenship status of their children. A government's authority begins and ends at the legal status of the parent.
The rights of the Martinez child in my mind were certainly not protected, based on the legal status of the mother, but I believe that said rights would have been protected if the ICWA had been established prior to the decision.
Violation of civil rights is a universal problem. We cannot afford to take it frivolously in any circumstance. This is THE TIME to stand and be counted. We want America to be a country who does not tolerate any civil infringement.
The atrocity that exists among all the Native American tribes has been ignored only to result in full blown desecration of the Native American Indian heritage.
Please let us all, whether Native Americans or Legal Immigrant, stand to protect the treasure of American Civil Liberty.
VIOLATION OF CIVIL RIGHTS OF ALL NATIVE AMERICANS WILL BE REVEIWED BY CONGRESS SO ALL STAND TOGETHER ,The current banishment case, and more to come,WE MUST SHOW SUPPORT for things to change
