Scott Cozart New Chairman of Soboba

The Soboba Band of LuiseƱo Indians has elected a new tribal chairman, ending more than 30 years of leadership from former Chairman Robert Salgado. The tribe elected Scott Cozart as its new chairman Friday. Salgado stepped down last year following a federal indictment on bribery charges. His trial is now scheduled to begin Oct. 15. Cozart last served as vice-chairman until he was voted out of office in 2006. He previously served as tribal chairman from 1986 to 1988. Also elected to serve on the tribal council were former council members Geneva Mojado and Edward Soza, defeating former Vice-Chairwoman Rosemary Morillo and councilmember Gordon Placencia. Council members Rose Salgado and Steve Lopez have one more year remaining on their two-year terms.

  1. That needs to happen at Pechanga,
corrupt Mark Macarro needs to be voted out, tribal members need to
stop being afraid of this TYRANT. Put your fear aside and stand up for the good of the Tribe. IF YOU DON'T IT CAN ONLY GET WORSE FOR ALL OF YOU WHO ARE STILL ENROLLED.

  3. He can't get voted out, because he made sure that the majority of opposition votes are now terminated from the tribe, OR kept out via the unlawful moratorium. OR unless the CPP turns against him for doing the right thing, even though he doesn't want to.

  4. How can the people of a government see what pitfalls there are when you don't set term limits? The problem with Salgado at Soboba and Macarro at Pechanga is that they feel that they are kings instead of stewards to their people. The people of these nations NEED to change their constitutions to reflect better goverance.

By the way, what is the relation of Rose Salgado to Robert Salgado? (wife?)
