Making what seems like a veiled threat about the upcoming election, Pechanga Chairman Mark Macarro, noted for eliminating 25% of tribal citizens, issues a statement on the City of Temecula's decision to file suit.
STATEMENT OF PECHANGA TRIBAL CHAIRMAN MARK MACARRO
“This absurd lawsuit shows poor judgment by the city’s elected officials. The city council has done a great disservice to the people of Temecula by jeopardizing this very generous offer of $2.5 million per year. This, just weeks before the election.
“Although the city council commonly uses litigation as a tool to conduct business, for Pechanga it is a very serious matter that is not taken lightly. It is not our tradition to solve issues through litigation. This approach has enabled us to become Temecula’s top employer and largest economic contributor.
“As we have said all along, these funds are intended to mitigate reasonable off-reservation impacts, not solve city hall’s budget deficit.”
Mr. CHAIRMAN, it was not Pechanga's tradition to eliminate members from the tribe either, you pompous windbag.
OP: Chairman Macarro seems to think that Pechanga's lack of litigation has enabled the tribe to become Temecula's top employer. Remember when Pechanga SUED the state to keep us from voting on Prop. 94, claiming signature gathering was faulty? It's the gaming the citizens of CA has approved that enables Pechanga to employ the people it NEEDS for it's operation.
The CITY can mitigate impacts, by not holding or attending any more events at the Pechanga Resort and Casino. They can choose not to promote the casino on the city website. Remember, Temecula, that Pechanga has STOLEN over $250,000,000 from those they have exterminated from the tribe. They HAVE the money. They just don't want to pay YOU for your inconvenience.
Now you know the anger of Mark Macarro, the man who once mocked Norman Pico's heart condition...
ReplyDeleteChairman Macarro, of COURSE doesn't like litigation. Because THERE, they have to follow the LAW.
ReplyDeleteAt Pechanga, they can force people be herded into hearings.
They can disallow the right to attorneys.
They don't have to give up evidence (disclosure)
They don't have to allow writing implements.
They don't have to let the "accused" confront the accuser.
They can force the accused to provide certifed documents, but will accept hearsay evidence from child molestors.
They can hire experts and then not consider his testimony.
They can pat down search elders.
They can dictate conduct by saying it would affect their decision.
They can allow their arbiters to show up late for hearings, as the decision was "pre-ordained".
They can allow judges to rule, even though the judges and their families would benefit monetarily by ruling the way the council wants. No recusals as there would have to be in court.
NO WONDER CHAIRMAN MARK MACARRO doesn't like litigation.
Once again Macarro proves he believes he is above everyone else. He believes the tribe is above litigation, this have been the case at one time. But once you start operating a public business you must play by the same rules as everyone else, even if you are a tribe.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the REAL world Mark, your world is soon collapsing!
Does Macarro realize that this damages his reputation even more?
ReplyDeleteDue to Mark Macarro and his "Gang of the Damned and Corrupt", the Pechanga Tribe has a bad reputation.
I wonder if, once Macarro is gone, this Tribe can actually come together as one people and stop all this corruption.
Meanwhile, don't gamble at that Casino, go a little further down the road to Pala.
A "very generous offer?" You are so right. What a windbag. It isn't an offer, it is what is owed!
ReplyDeleteThe agreement was ratified by the council, and Pechanga moved forward with their plans despite not having an agreement with Riverside County. So if they can have their machines without a completed deal, why can't Temecula have their cash without a completed deal?
Guess what New-Pechangas... Expect DUI checkpoints as often as we Temecula citizens can make happen in front of your casino. Expect that you will have less local support. Expect that there will be several call made to update the sex offender registry for your criminals that you hide. Expect everything that breaks California law on your nasty reservation to come to light. Dot your "i"s and cross your "t"s, because if you want to play little word games instead of doing what is right, we're all game.
Macarro, you non-Pechanga, I don't know what you've been smoking (with your jaundiced eyes), but we all see past it. You want your little tribe to go on the political warpath with California? You might think you're protected because you're on Federal land (which is only RESERVED for your pathetic new-money indian thugs) but you forget that California rights trump the Feds rights.
You said that MY council has poor judgment and that they've made an absurd choice. That's really funny coming from the leader of an absurd kangaroo council that made the most absurd judgment of all: Disenrolling your own people against the recommendation of an expert!
We already see that you will make a poor choice so long as it benefits you and your pathetic circle of thugs.
Temecula doesn't need Pechanga's money- we were doing just fine without it before the casino.
Union organizers- now is your time to start enlisting at the casino!
To all of the disenrolled- now is your time to start protesting and picketting again! Start writing letters in to the local papers, regional papers, and the TV news. Show up at the court hearings, talk to the press covering it. Pechanga will want to hide. If you make the two issues into one issue, you can make this happen.
Now is the time! Seize it!

I agree with this poster, the general public can petition Sacramento and the Attorney General of California, to revoke and nullify the ballot measure that allowed Pechanga to increase the number of machines at the casino.
This failure to negotiate in good faith and come to an agreement is clearly evident, so the state has the right to seize any number of slot machines and hold them until a final agreement is reached.
Pechanga could have acted in good faith by complying with the agreement even though Riverside county negotiations were still ongoing. Pechanga could have set the money in to a trust fund administered by both Pechanga and the city of Temecula then to be dispersed when all interested parties were in agreement, but Pechanga serves no one but their own self-interest.
It is not fair that Pechanga treat the citizens in such an obvious disregard and disrespectful way the citizens of Temecula. It is this type of behavior that I have been speaking of since our disenrollment in 2004. Please stand with us in our fight against corruption.
After all the City of Temecula has done for Pechanga, ie. roads, police, advertising, the list goes on forever...Pechanga should not let Arrogant Macarro be quoted in the np. He really ruins Pech's image. Pech please get a new spokesman!
ReplyDeleteChairman Macarro should be SCREAMING his thank yous to the Riverside Sheriffs. After all, they protected the reservation AND the Casino from so many of us protestors 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteRemember, the sheriffs staged in the casino's parking lot! Our elders must have had them shaking.
And, the sheriffs weren 't even CLOSE when Ray Basquez, Jr, convicted drug offender, threatened some of the protesters
The city really needs to get out the word to avoid Pechanga tribal businesses.
ReplyDeleteThe city gets $2 million a year from Pechanga. Pechanga gets$400 MILLION from Temecula citizens.
WHO NEEDS WHO more?
If Temecula citizens spend $400 million in Temecula, that generates $5 million in sales taxes, more in tips to service employees, increased jobs in those venues.
I agree, the Pechanga tribe needs the Temecula citizens and their surrounding neighbors MORE.
ReplyDeleteThe city should feature Pechanga on any of their ads, nor come to any events at the casino.
I've read comments about drunk driving stops, but not sure if that's a good idea. Maybe change the traffic lights to slow things down.
The stupid part of all your arguments is that this whole issue is a result of the state and local governments not working together. For example, if the state cared about the local governments their agreement wouldn't have let the new machines to in until the local agreements were in place. Then if the county and city cared about each other they would have insisted that the three parties come together to get their agreements completed. Hell, if the city wants to get paid so badly why aren’t they trying to work with the county to get them to get their agreement in place.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know the city is not talking to the county?
ReplyDeleteAnd they have separate goals.
THIS POSTER ABOVE MUST BE A PECHANGA THERE IS NODEFENSE YOU CAN MAKE FOR THIS CORRUPTION
ReplyDeleteOP AND TEMECULA INDIANS LETS GET A HUGE PROTEST AT PECHANGA AND ASK ALL OTHER indians to come 400 or more before we go to Washington again we need to get it together now WHOS IS GOING TO PUT IT TOGETHER i WILL HELP JUST GIVE ME THE GO POWER!UNITE TO FIGHT POLYSQWALIS
Great idea POLYSQWALIS! This sends fear thru certain CPP members. They are afraid of the rising up of the true Temecula Indians.
ReplyDeletePechanga is not afraid of "true Temecula Indians" There's not enough of you to make a difference. Most of you are fat and lazy.
ReplyDeleteYour ineffectiveness is staggering.
We are already making a difference as you wouldn't even be coming here if we weren't.
ReplyDeleteBecause, as I have told the tribal hack, if we can't do anything about it, then why do you even care what we say?
Curiosity is a powerful thing. Watching your few supporters is just that, a curiosity.
ReplyDeleteHow many Manuela Miranda's involved?
How many Hunters are involved?
How many ordinary citizens are involved?
You have little and we wonder, is it laziness, or fear, or apathy?
You shouldnt be worried with the numbers. There are plenty who contribute. More are always welcome of course. Know this dear readers, this blog has caused alot of chatter. This blog has brought many into the fold, even patrons who thought of going and spending their hard erned money. Even heavy political power have viewed and shared this blog with others.
ReplyDeleteSome family who can have visited other forums in other states, and some have visited with Congressional staffers. If you think for one minute that this is small time, think again. Or better yet, just stayed tuned and post your thoughts, cause things are happening. Both in the Band, and outside.

ReplyDeleteYeah, sure you do. Your cousin doesn't know jack. Ain't nothing happening. Tribe has money and power, no BIA flack is gonna cause trouble.
ReplyDeleteblowhard...
It's not just the BIA. It's the justice department, department of interior, and Congress. They are all interested in the happenings at Pechanga. Your right, they are interested in the fake people holding the Money and Power. Looking at the corruption, and misinformation being told by Macarro et al.
ReplyDeleteBasquez, better find a good story on all your fake and falsified paperwork.
To I have a cousin
ReplyDeleteIknow you are not telling a lie when we were in washington I heard the same thing
None of the officials at Pechanga have absolute power contrary to what they think.
ReplyDeleteNone of them had more power than Saddam Hussein and look what happned to him, dancing at the end of a rope without a floor!
Now I am not saying anything as drastic as that is going to happen to them, and I don't wish that upon them either, but if Saddam could be brought down from power, they sure can be brought down from what they think is their so called lofty place
Very sad state of affairs. A whole culture stolen by greed. What a thorn.
