Plains Indian Tribes Vocal on Mascot Issue, SILENT on Tribal Cleansing & Civil Rights Abuses

I find it sadly comical that so many tribes can be vocal about using Native Americans as mascots, yet be silent on the human and civil rights abuses by tribes.

Here's a statement by 11 Plains Tribes:

The use of American Indians for school nicknames, logos and mascots at colleges and universities continues to be dehumanizing and disrespectful to American Indians and is a racist statement.”

No word on their feelings about TRIBAL CLEANSING terminations of Indianstheft of per capita,  loss of voting rights, APARTHEID practiced by CA tribes such as Redding Rancheria,  Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, and Picayune Rancheria to name just a few.

Way to priortize what's really important Great Plains Association...

This issue is a sad one, but there is a far more serious crime happening in Indian country. This crime is being committed by some tribal governments/officials who were voted in to protect the rights of their citizens. They are violating some of their tribal members tribal, civil & human rights by unjustly dis-enrolling them. Please support our cause!

  2. IT SIMPLY BOILS DOWN TO PERCAP. THEY DON'T GIVE A TINKERS DAMN ABOUT HOW IT AFFECTS LEGITIMATE INDIANS THAT HAVE BEEN DISENROLLED, BETTER KNOWN AS ETHNIC CLEANSING OF THERE OWN PEOPLE.

  3. I believe associating school mascot names with Native Americans is done out of respect and pride. NOT disrespect. But some people are just too sensitive. Our sociity has turned into a bunch of cry babies!

  4. Publicity and interest are what drive the machine; they know that issues of identity carry a lot of political weight whereas disenrollment issues are still considered an internal matter that each tribe must work out for themselves. We know that we were not treated fairly with respect to tribal law or federal law but PAC contributions to the DNC and other politicians holding out their hand has assured that our issue will not be considered unless we do something so radical as to bring national media attention to it. Unfortunately it seems that the only way to get such attention is to do something illegal or potentially life threatening to our members, and as such, I do not advocate this type of action. It is however possible to continue to present our stories as we have been doing in a peaceful manner this just means that it will take a little longer but the results will be more complete for those who continue to fight. The Warrior knows that to spill blood is to do so as a last measure to protect his people.

  5. WHITE BUFFALO: "THAT'S IS WHY THIS UP AND COMMING RALLY" IS SO VERY IMPORTANT. IT'S IN THE EARLY PLANNING STAGES NOW, BUT WITH A LITTLE MOMENTUM THIS COULD BE HUGE. ARE YOU INTEREST IN FIGHTING FOR YOUR HERITAGE SO THAT YOUR CHILDREN WILL KNOW WHAT "PECHANGA" REALLY MEANS AND WHO THEIR ANCESTERS WERE. LETS STOP THIS BEFORE THE "MACARRO CARTEL" WINS BY DEFAULT, AND OUR HERITAGE "DIES" WITH US. WE CAN DO THIS, BUT IT'S GOING TAKE ALL OF US.

  6. YOU KNOW WHEN THE FIRST WHITE MEN CAME ASHORE CENTURYS AGO, WE INDIANS' HELPED TO FEED AND CLOTHES THEM, AND SHOWED THEM HOW TO LIVE IN ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITION SO THEY COULD SURVIVE IN THIS NEW LAND OF PLENTY. THIS WAS OUR LAND AND THEY WERE VISITORS, AND WE TREATED THEM WITH RESPECT, WHICH WAS THE "INDIAN WAY". THEN, ALAS, IT WENT BAD FOR FOR THE INDIAN. THEY HAD GUNS, WE HAD BOWS AND ARROWS. AS MORE WHITE MEN CAME THEY WANTED MORE, AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. THE INDIAN GOT SCREWED BY THE "WHITE MAN" FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS, AND TO DATE NOTHING HAS CHANGED. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD THING THAT "INDIAN COUNTRY" WAS CONSIDERED A "SOUVERN" NATION OF MANY TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF ALL INDIANS. NOW CAME THE CASINOS', AND THE "MACARRO CARTEL" AND OTHER GREEDY AND CORRUPT TRIBAL LEADERS, WITH SAFE GUARDS IN PLACE SO THIS COULD NEVER HAPPEN, START DISENROLLING LEGITIMATE INDIANS FROM THEIR MEMBERSHP, NOT ALLOWING ANY APPEAL TO COME FORWARD THAT WOULD PROVE WE ARE PECHANGA. "NOT FAIR"? TIME TO START FIGHTING BACK. "HERITAGE IS EVERTHING".
