Thursday, December 22, 2011– Disenrollment Dividing Tribes:
The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees American citizens the right to freedom of speech. Recently, seven members of a California tribe were banned from tribal lands for up to 10 years, allegedly for speaking out against the current tribal administration. Should a tribe be able to use its status as a sovereign nation to remove unwanted members from their tribal rolls, with no recourse? Does simply speaking out against your tribal leaders give them the right to kick you out of the tribe? Guests include former chairwoman Jessica Tavares (United Auburn Indian Community).

I missed the call in but I am from California and we are going though the same deal and we only have 5 adult members. Our land was bought for "Landless Indians" you don't have to have lineal blood. It seems to be all over Greed that we are going to be dis enrolled we are already banned from our own land as of now. You can read about us its Alturas Indian Rancheria vs Ken Salazar. This started because the DOJ came to us m brother and I to investigate the other 3 for misappropriation of Tribal funds. Now for 3 years we have been fighting and helping the DOj. Now 1 of those members that was on our side helping decided he was gonna flip sides again and now m brother and I are banned and not getting or per cap checks and nothing is getting done around here in Indian Country and its totally sad.
I would have to agree with most of your callers yesterday from California its the White attorneys that are in fact telling all the Indian people to dis enroll or aid in the fight against 2 factions. Its sad that BIA, attorneys and ex BIA officials are at the heart of why we are all fighting and not standing together as one united front against the Tribal corruption. Its not ever been the Indian way to be greedy and let the white man take us down. We were all taught to fight these things and treat all your people with respect.

Do you "Really Think" this guy just decided to flip sides: "Just like that?" "They got to him." You have got to know that. But to what extent? They had to have "Threatened" him. Did you talk to him and find out why? Or there is the distint possibility that extreme pressure was applied to this guy, and you may not find out what happened, at least from him. So what have you decided to do about it? Have you talked to the people at the D.O.J. that you were working behind the scenes with? For this is "Criminal," and falls right into place with what's happening all over "Indian Country." We feel your "Pain and Anguish, and just know we are with you. You now have first hand knowledge of what we are dealing with. "Its Not Pretty!"
