UPDATE:KCBS Planning Interviews of Disenrolled Pala and Pechanga. Robert Smith Is Interviewed. Pechanga's Macarro Declines

UPDATED for Comment by Me (OP)

We are aware of interviews completed with disenrolled native Americans from Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians and Pala . KCBS-TV Channel 2 in Los Angeles reporter Cristy Fajardo conducted the interviews. Paulina Hunter descendents were interviewed, as were family of Manuela Miranda, who descends from Pablo Apis, on whose land grant the Pechanga Casino is on.

We know that the topic of the Jennie Miranda inquest came up. Could that be a reason why Mark Macarro declined to be interviewed? It's tricky business to obfuscate on camera, and he failed miserably the last time he was interviewed for an NBC piece. They caught him lying in 16 seconds. There is fear from tribal members that the Casino could be shut down after the FBI investigation is complete and indictments unsealed.

We believe the piece from KCBS/KCAL will be up next week. Please stay tuned here for more information.

  1. Well now, good work on getting the interview.

Macarro ducked it? At least Smith would go on camera. What's Macarro got to hide? Oh, yeah..

  2. Macarro doesn't think you all are worth the effort...

  3. Is Jennie Miranda worth the efort?

  4. Of course "Macarro" won't even take a chance at an "Interview," with CBS, because he got caught "Lying" in the NBC expose', so his "Tail" is between his "Legs!" He can't afford another "Trial By Media." He couldn't "Justify the Lies" then, and it would be worse now, if he gave an Interview, for CBS would know just what to ask that would "Trip Him Up."...."Eagle Eyes."

  7. Being in the moratorium shows the greed of the CPP. And it proves how weak your relatives are in the tribe.

Keep fighting for what is right!

  8. Tosobols aren't the only ones in the moratorium. Hunters and Apish were in it too.

  9. Within 20 years, most CA tribes will have disenrolled themselves into extinction. I'll bet anyone $100.

  10. The pechanga moratorium was challenged in Federal court and the Bia folded.

They failed to answer,....the moratorium is a violation of IGRA.

I must say that this poster does not realize that the issue that is covered most on this site is the corruption behind the disenrollment’s and moratorium. The problem is not who has suffered more, for in the end we have been displaced from our right to identity, and our right of inheritance that comes from our ancestors who lived through the attempted genocide and forced internment on worthless pieces of land called reservations. My great, great, great grandmother was disenrolled posthumously. Where is the justice of that? She was there when the tribe was evicted from her grandfathers, Pablo Apis, land.

The Tosabols and Hunters were there as well, so we all have an equal right to be heard. OP is tireless in his effort to fight and he gives all who are affected a chance to participate by allowing articles to be posted that are relevant and factual. I would say that it is up to the individual to speak loudly. It is also true that many from all of the families have given up, so it appears that the fight is just being fought by those who are close to OP. It would benefit our cause if this type of statement was not said, for it only invites a better than, or an, us or them, kind of attitude.

We should not say that one family is more deserving than another for that weakens us. Nor should we expect someone to fight our battle for us, so accept those who are willing to fight regardless of what the reason to fight is. Disenrolled or stuck in the Moratorium it makes no difference at this point. We are being denied our birthright and our civil right to fight for what we believe is just.

  14. This is a dis enrollment site? thats a pretty shitty thing to say, you must be one of the jerks that kept us out, also I had a comment earlier and it wasnt posted, what gives?

Hey brother in the moratorium leave your e-mail I will be glad to help you,...we gotta stick together,...

  16. I understand how the situation can look bleak at times.

Moratorium people were cheated, plain and simple. Manuela Miranda's and Hunters were taken out because two of our brethren supported Tosobol/Rios applications after Frances Miranda shuffled them around.

I have been working this blog for over five years. I have asked numerous times for information from Tosobols, anything they wanted published regarding their situation. How much has been sent? A couple of items.

This situation with KCBS came about because I sent information packets to many newsrooms. Cristy Fajardo got this while at Channel 11. She had all contact information for all involved, including other tribes.

This is no longer JUST a Pechanga issue. This isn't just a California issue. I work with members from Redding, Mooretown, Pala, Chukchansi, Snoqualmie, Isleta.

This is a long fight, remember, it was a long fight to GET gaming on our reservations. Now, with the corrupt tribal councils harming their own people, we have to work together to raise the volume so people will know.

I ask all of you who are affected, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY.

We all work at differentl levels, some worked very hard 6 to 8 years ago. It's easy to give up. In fact, I think that's what the tribes are hoping for. We have to pick our opportunities, and one of those periods is NOW. Disenrollments are in the news again, the New York Times has noticed it, the Associated Press. We must use the power of moral persuasion to get people moving.

I ASSURE ALL in the MORATORIUM that the subject was brought up in our 1 1/2 hours of interviews. We TOLD the Tosobal story. The moratorium story for Pechanga is linked on the first page. Frankly, Tosobols can help promote their own story, by sending the link to that story to all their friends, asking them to check it EVERYDAY. Do all Tosobols check in everday? No. How can you/we ask others to help us, if we aren't willing to help ourselves? Pechanga checks our blog more each day than anyone other than myself. IF YOU ALL checked it as many times as they do, this blog's ranking would be huge.

DON'T whine.... FIGHT. Keep exposing the corruption, keep commenting on this blog, comment on ANY story about disenrollment EVERYWHERE. Tell all your friends that Pechanga and Pala's story will be on KCBS. When they put it up on their website, we MUST send traffic there, so they know it's an important story. The reporter may send it to CNN or 60 Minutes, but WE ALL have to help give it that push. WHERE are the young with their facebook and twitter? Each story here should be shared.

  17. Great comeback...

  18. We may have all gotten to this point on different ships...but we are ALL in the same boat now.

No matter if you are moratorium, banished or disenrolled, you have have your rights violated. Tribes have disrespected our elders and stolen the heritage of our children.

All while most hope someone will do something. We can't wait for someone else, we have to stay pro-active, otherwise our congresspeople have short attention spans.

  19. After the expose on Pala and Pechanga, we must work hard to drive people to KCBS's website where I'm sure they will link the story. That has to be shared.

Will Rocha put it up on his website?

  20. The people in the moratorium wanted nothing to do with the tribe before it had a casino, they abandoned their heritage. Now they want to be a member to get benefits, sorry you choose not to enroll before the casino years.

Just because you say so does not make it true. Look at the governing documents. Nowhere, not one instance is that implied. You just beloved your bs. It is that simple Mr simpleton Smith.

  23. Sounds like you have Mark nervous after reading the lame responses on here...many members that were disenrolled were very vocal tribal members BEFORE the casino....and when did Mark really get involved?...how many years before the casino was approached?

  24. Don't be hater's of the "moratorium people" the true pechanga Indians ....

Open your heart to them ,welcome them into the tribe!

Let the sun shine once again, beautiful Readers!

Everyone knows that that is a "Load of Crap!" Pechanga's E.C. had been ignoring applications that were presented way before the "Moratorium." So get "Real!" You are nothing more then "Greedy Parasites" for your "In-sah-able Appitite" for as much $$$ that you can get at the "Expense" of your 'Membership!"..."Eagle Eyes."

  26. Frances Miranda admitted not processing Tosobol paperwork to other enrollment committee members.

She stated there were "too many" of them.

Why isn't Macarro on the 1979 initial rolls? Nor Jennie Miranda. Oh, right, Jennie gave that "dog ate my appliation" excuse at a meeting.

  27. It is too bad that all of this has come about. Indians are fighting Indians over white man's money. Who started it all? the White lawyers, who talks for the ECs?, the white Spokesman, who's making the most money from these fights?, the white men, and who is spending at the Casinos?, the white men. who owns the land the reservations are on? the white men. So no matter which way you look at it, the Indians are still being controlled by the white men, and who is going to help destroy the reservations?, the white men. Maybe instead of fighting each other, the Indians need to re-band and fight the rich white men that are laughing at them all the way to the bank.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Indians with the power have hurt so many people. Even if they were guided by a white man, they could have said, NO.

Lawyers simply kept them on a path that would be safe from prying government eyes.

That's why we can't let Robert Smith get away with what he's done, by simply going away. We have to keep telling the story to everyone we know. Ask your friends to quit going to Pala...

  29. The moratorium people have been fighting for fifteen years, We lost a great brother who was a true warrior, he will never be forgotten, my cousins and I spent many trips to the reservation to fight for those who didn't care the TOSOBALS will never give up!, we are the true indians, we are strong and know our heritage!,We belong no if's and's or but's.

  30. Yes the Tosobals fought a good fight !

Nobody can take that away from you guys (you got pride) your clan can hear you!

  32. The facts are that all of us belong in the tribe, Manuela Mirandas, Hunters and Tosobols.

The bald face lies of Macarro on television, his lies to congress, lies to his first wife, should prove that he's an untrustworthy liar.

We should petition the BIA to suspend their recognition and put the casino in limbo until the corruption is ended...
