Tribal Sovereignty in A NUTSHELL to Corrupt Pala Tribal Chairman ROBERT SMITH

When asked WHY he wouldn't produce the evidence against the Brittain family on their disenrollment:

CAUSE WE DON'T HAVE TO.

  3. The evidence says that Robert Smith disenrolled legitimate tribal members to cheat them out of their heritage and benefits.

When he says "We don't have to," he means, "We don't want to." Sovereignty is a shield he is hiding behind so people can't see how corrupt, deceitful, and arrogant he is.

It isn't really working. We all see him for who he is. The courts and the BIA won't do anything about as long as it's just Indians hurting Indians. It is the people who have to stand up against tyranny.

  4. I saw it the same way, "we don't have to". That doesn't mean "shouldn't".

If the evidence is so strong against the Brittain woman, then show it.

  6. Maybe because the Pala and Pechanga people are LAZY? They want the rewards of the casino, but don't want to put any effort into it.

They figure it's better to have a corrupt leader than to have to lift a finger and do some work?

  7. There are a few reasons why they keep getting voted in, in Pala: First of all the Voting is rigged by them, their immediate family members are the election committee and they tally the votes, the ballot containers are taken away and then pre-filled ballots are slipped in, also there is suppose to be two year term limit and then the Incumbent is not suppose to run for a year, but Robert did away with term limits, so he controls the voting every time. Then not all members live on the Rez and the ones that live off and have not heard a thing about the disenrollments usually just vote for the incumbent. The ballots that are sent away are pre-self-addressed, so they automatically know who voted for whom. Then sometimes money is offered for votes. One other reason is the People are scared to vote against him because if he finds out then there might be retaliation.

  8. Do tribes deserve what they get when they put these people in office?

  9. Robert has been the Chairman for over twenty years. In the beginning he was good for the people. He got corrupt with the influence of Howard Dickstein, who also happens to be the lawyer for many other tribes who have disenrolled members. The second that Robert's actions were in question by certain family members, the disenrollments began. He even told King, who was arguing with him over Leroy, "your kids are off the rolls". They had not even talked about voting on it or anything, then King's kids received their notices.
