Here's Costas' take:
“Think for a moment about the term ‘Redskins’ and how it truly differs from all the others,” Costas said regarding the Washington name and other team names referring generally to Native Americans or specifically to tribes. “Ask yourself what the equivalent would be, if directed African-Americans. Hispanics. Asians. Or members of any other ethnic group. When considered that way, ‘Redskins’ can’t possibly honor a heritage, or a noble character trait, nor can it possibly be considered a neutral term.
“It is an insult, a slur, no matter now benign the present-day intent,” Costas added. “It is fair to say that for a long time now, and certainly in 2013, no offense has been intended, but if you take a step back, isn’t it clear to see how offense might legitimately be taken?”

If you think the San Francisco CHINKS is a derogatory name,
If you think the NY Hymies is a derogatory name,
If you think the Nebraska Honkies is a derogatory name,
If you think the Alabama Jigaboos is a derogatory name,
Then Redskins in derogatory. Simple
One of my Native Friends from New Mexico on FB:
I’m NOT offended in the slightest! Matter of fact, I think the name Washington Redskins is a honor and the logo reflects a dignified man…that exudes power, strength, and courage.
There are more pressing issues that Indian Country should focus on! Even if Snyder changed the name, there would still be racism, corrupt tribal governments, sky high suicide rates, unwed pregnancies, child abuse and neglect, and a list of other societal woes facing American Indians.
The name change changes nothing! This name change campaign is a diversion designed to bamboozle and hoodwink sheeple into running a fools errand.
since the name Redskins is ok.for most of you people would you then agree to change the name to Blackskins? After all most of the players are black. Or are you offended by That?
I seen some Indian tribe members wear the redskins hat. I was sorta hoping they change the name to "REDHEADS"
