Are Gaming Tribes Becoming the NEW MAFIA? Powerful at the Top, Wetting their Beaks at Their Tribe's Expense?

The current dustup at Chukchansi, with more than $49 Million missing makes us wonder: WHO is minding the store at Tribal Casinos?  Where is the Federal oversight?

At Pechanga, tribal chairman Mark Macarro, who lied to Congress was subject of a recall petition by those opposed to his hiring his wife's lobbying firm .  Now there is continuing pressure at Pechanga to oust Macarro's brother, John Macarro, from his position as consigliere..er "legal adviser"  a high paid job, (reportedly over $300,000 for an attorney that can't pass the CA bar) and a bloated expense account.  Also factor in that Macarro is paying his wife lobbying firm IETAN Consulting $250,000 per year over the past five years or so.  And what has the TRIBE received from that largesse?  We, who are disenrolled have beaten back the tribe's lawyers and lobbyists with TWO visits to congress and simple HONESTY to the facts.  Senator Boxer's Native American assistant at least had the decency to be embarrassed by a bill written by Holly Macarro, that would have changed the definition of a reservation allottee. But the point is, they lost!  To two people who had a free room at the Marriott Courtyard, during the government shutdown.

At Pala, Tribal chair despicable ROBERT SMITH runs roughshod over his tribe, disenrolling family's, firing assistants who know where the bones are buried.  You can learn more about this tribe at the estimable PALA WATCH but the point is, money is being spent, oversight is non existent and all of a sudden, things like airplane rides, money earned is not being taxed, and Californian's are losing much needed monies that our politicians are turning a blind eye to.

At Robinson Rancheria, the late Tracey Avila led evictions of those that didn't think her way, she was later charged with embezzlement of another tribes money.

Who is protecting tribal people from their OWN TRIBES?

Kevin Washburn we again say, YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS.

  1. It is sad that tribes are treating their own like this, Im a member of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians one of the members who was dis-enrolled this March. The tribe runs under intimidation of a chairman ( Nick Fonseca) who abuses drugs, sexual harassment and discrimination as his ways of ruling with an iron fist. Mr.Fonseca has other that work along the side of him to carryout what he sees fit for what he calls his "TRIBE", the Tribal Administrator was banned and fired from his very own tribe for embezzlement so he is the one moving the funds around for Mr. Fonseca and should he not comply with the wishes he'll be fired, the have sex and drug parties all with the government monies that are to be used to run the business and assist the members. Those on council have no voice they are bought and paid for, should they get out of line their jobs are on the line , for those that aren't sure of how these people work they give you these good paying jobs paying you anywhere from $70,000 to $130,000 a years to do nothing and that's not including their Per Capta along with the weekly honorariums you get that can be an additional $10,000 so pretty much he has them in the palm of his hands. He has his children in all the areas where he has say so threw them Human Resources at the Casino, Tribal Administrator's Assistant, Health Boards, Gaming Commission shall I go on. we have be wrongfully dis-enrolled and its not right for these tribal leaders to abuse their seats.

  2. I concur that greed and power is or has created self destruction with our people and within our native lands. These people are no different then the Government and those Europeans that invaded this country.

  3. When the mafia ran Vegas it wasn't so much cheating on the games it was the crooked books, money skimming and the head of the family's coming in and taking their cut with out it being on the records. this is what's happing in Indian gaming right now. We know the government kick out the mafia out of Vegas and the gaming industry but in Indian gaming it's on federal land so then they will shut it down.

  4. Pechanga's former Chair Jennie Miranda stole from the ENTIRE tribe along with others in the Class II Slots.

What justice for tribal members... ALL the members?

  5. Just a question ? Who do you think is voting for Mark Macarro?

    What groups within the tribe?

Name some ? (well nobody has been running against him)

  6. He is winning the majority of votes. Curious that not all adults are voting. The participation is down.

  7. His paid people are voting for him, don't want that Lil incentive then you must not belong in the tribe.... That's his way of thinking

  8. The truth is blatant threats of disenrollment if you question why these bad actors are doing anything they think is OK. At Pechanga the Bad actors allowed disenrollment of over 25% of the enrolled members, and then threatened to do the same to anyone who questioned them for doing it. As time goes on, the younger generations will continue to see the truth, the lies will only travel as far as the Bad actors hold power. The creator has a lesson for "ALL" to learn and the truth will come out. The question is do you believe it's ok to lie to hold power? If you think so continue lying. If your heart and stomach have not been taken over by greed say the truth. That's why this blog is here. We share the truth.

  9. I have believed this since Normand Pico was murdered. I have no proof, but it is still very suspicions that the one person who could have ousted Marcy was killed before an election cycle. I am not accusing anyone because that is wrong, but if it stinks like $%(# it probably is. Another exsample is why would Pechanga have a white guy with no Indian blood on the tribal council. Can you say Mafia ties. Big bad BM. Hey Marcy tell your bend-over buddy Potato Head what's crack-a-lacking.

  10. WHAT ? Pico murdered ? How?

  11. I have to admit I made a mistake about Normand Pico he was not murdered. He died at the age of 70 at Pechanga. Here is who I was thinking about.

As noted in "Glacially Paced Investigation into DNC Visitor Gabriel Pico's Death Finally Moving Forward," the Denver Police haven't exactly set any records when it comes to charging someone in the August 30 incident that took the life of Gabriel Pico, 41, a member of California's Pechanga Tribal Council in town for the Democratic National Convention.

I still think there was something fishy going on.

  12. If you remember he was going to run against Marcy. As I remember he had a very good chance of winning. Seems real strange can you say conspiracy. Remember I have no proof, but I do have that certain feeling, and it is not usually wrong.
