Gaming website CalvinAyre.com has the full details of the The California State Assembly’s Governmental Organization Committee hearing – titled The Legality of Internet Poker: How Prepared Is California to Regulate It It seems that the chairman of the the Pechanga Resort and Casino tribe, does NOT want racetracks to share in the bounty.
Mark Macarro, chairman of the anti-PokerStars Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, noted that tracks have “zero history” with poker of any kind and that allowing ADW sites to add a poker tab would represent an unwarranted expansion of gaming. Macarro said each branch of the state’s gaming entities should “stay in its own lane.”
Pechanga Chairman Mark Macarro Says Gaming should be Indians ONLY |
Macarro noted that there had been four legislative efforts to expand gaming since the 1995 law that authorized cardrooms and voters had rejected all four. In 2004, 85% voted against adding slots to cardrooms and tracks.
However, Macarro offered an olive branch by suggesting the state’s licensed online poker operators would be willing to divert an unspecified portion of revenue to the tracks. Macarro also suggested tracks could generate revenue by acting as affiliates for online poker operators.
During the Q&A that followed, the Stronach Group’s west coast chairman Keith Brackpool rejected revenue sharing, saying it wasn’t right that the state’s other gaming entities should determine “what morsel” of poker revenue tracks deserved. Brackpool also suggested there was no one currently in the internet poker “lane” and that all parties were “converging to the middle,’ which must be done “with great care and awareness.”
Should tribes continue to have a monopoly on the gaming industry in CA? Should certain tribes be excluded as BAD ACTORS, Pechanga, Pala, Enterprise, Redding, Chukchansi, San Pasqual included?
Send in this OPEN LETTER to your Congress person to let them KNOW you know what these tribes have done.

Didn't the the tribes have revenue sharing with the tribes that don't have casinos and then stop it.
ReplyDeleteThey haven't stopped it yet, but soon will.
ReplyDeleteI think gaming should be exclusively for Tribes. When the State allows Gaming most reservations will die. This is the reason that all gaming tribes should save profits, rather than have absorbent Per Capita checks. Also they all need to invest in other types of commerce. Nothing lasts forever. Nothing.
ReplyDeleteI think tribes have had their "head start" on gaming. They've been able to build their infrastructure. Any new businesses have to start up. We need better controls, and more revenue for California.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how Macarro thinks its OK to disrespect other members rights, not follow the bands custom and tradition and then go to hearings and say don't allow others to have my piece of the pie? Respect your elders Macarro, and maybe your rights might not be taken away?
ReplyDeleteOk douchebag...put your money where your mouth is....let's have a vote in California now. Especially since your tribal leadership has ruined many lives and allowed stealing amongst the higher ups. Nothing brings out the truth like a vote. Mark would do all that he could to stop California from voting on it. That per cap would go way down as he spends millions advertising for his monopoly.
ReplyDeleteNot for Macarro, but Pechanga is probably one of the best located casinos. If gaming is allowed in the state of California, Pechanga probably wouldn't hurt as much as the other 80+ casinos. Give gaming an inch they'll take a yard.
ReplyDeleteHere is a man that went against his own tribal constitution and by laws on disenrollment and disenrolled 25% of the tribe to protect his power and increase his tribal money income. He has put his brother as head legal for the tribe even though he is not a lawyer. he hired his wife as a lobbyist for the tribe with out a vote on it and pays her 3 time the rate of what other lobbyist make. his brother was caught embellishing tribal money a seconded time. in the past when elders have spoken up against him he has threaten them with disenrollment.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 10:53. I share your hardship. The laws within the tribe are not working. There isnt any checks and balances. The US government has yet to step in but as a Tribal Member I believe in our sovereignty however the US as our supreme government should make us abide by our own laws. Leaders of tribes are deceptive and don't follow the rules set in place. If we as a people don't fix our own issues the government WILL come in and fix it for us. Could be good or detrimental. AHO!
ReplyDeleteMacarro and et al hope everyone keeps their heads buried and they can continue to go against the will of the people, dishonor our ancestors and elders, and then try to represent us in outside meetings.
ReplyDeleteDon't you think congress senate and others in DC see Mark Macarro for what he his. he has shown he has no regard for tribal laws and constitution so why would he honor the united states constitution and laws. he is only a small man trying to grab all the power and money he can he has no regard for Pechanga or the people that live there.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a "bad actor?" Iron Eyes Cody?
ReplyDeletePersonally I do not like to use politically correct language like "bad actors". I think calling those who are corrupt, liars, cheaters, and etcetera for who they really are is the best way for me that way nothing can be read into it. I do know how to be polite, but lets say if I am addressing Marc M. I will call him a weak, unethical, leader with no moral compass or scruples who has chosen the god of money and power over the truth and wisdom of the creator. If I was to use the words "bad actor"; it might sound like, The bad actors Marc M. who leads the Pechanga tribe does not know what it means to be Indian anymore. Well now that I read it, I guess both describe the little prick very well.
ReplyDeleteIs the photo of Marcaro a Border Patrol Mug shot?
ReplyDeleteWho is that Black man in the photo, is he part of the Freedmen Tribe? Was his Grandpa a slave.
