THE PAPER, Escondido Weekly Exposes The San Pasqual Band of Casino Indians and Tribal Disenrollment

Lyle Davis, editor of the Escondido weekly, known as THE PAPER takes a LONG look at the enormous amount of money generated by Tribal casinos and the revenue stream that goes to the enrolled tribal members of the San Pasqual Band of Casino Indians. And the often harsh impact of "tribal disenrollment," all in this week's issue.  As an added bonus, he's going to have a second issue on Pechanga

You can access it via THIS LINK, or read it below but please...read and SHARE!

  1. Unfortunately, the story published by Mr. Davis only tells a half-truth about what is happening at San Pasqual. Very, very disappointing.

  2. wow, impressive article. Some major homework was definitely done. I feel a tribe should not be able to claim sovereignty against Individual Indians. This way the members being disenrolled can have their due process and tribal leaders could not go around harming all of their members and getting away with it, even murder. Disenrollments need to stop and if the government wants things to remain inter-tribal then take away the sovereignty call against their own kind, then the members will handle the crap like they did in the old days. I also call BullShit on the part of the BIA, they are not acting our of respect for sovereignty, they are acting our of what is good for them personally, just look at Amy D, Francis M, or Robert E, they have only helped to hurt the disenrolled even more, and then there is Bonnie Dumanis who lets the Tribal Leaders and their families get away with criminal activity giving even more fear among members who would like to fight back, but would face backlash from the cops and the system. Just look at Robert Smith's daughter who members are saying got rid of evidence in Bradley's Murder and was arrested for driving around with assault weapons, drugs, and a silencer. Saying they needed it for protection from the disenrolled because of threats. BS. If Robert was such a great Chairman and Honorable like some people refer to him (disgustingly) then why would anyone want to fight him or be mad at him, instead he has to have more security than the President. Why? Also Howard Dickstein is the biggest player in this calamity, he started all of it, and if you keep going to the beginning you will see his name in so many places, and the manipulation that he put into play, like making sure Amy got her position of Regional Director, cleared the way for the disenrollments to happen across the state of California, because Howard knew California laws and that it would be hard for the Feds to step in.

  3. Santa Clara Pueblo v. Martinez (1978) 436 U.S. 49.
Tribe's have a right to determine their own membership
UNLESS the BIA has authority over enrollment

  4. Yes, a tribe has the right to choose there own membership. But the chairman and the EC is not the tribe. It is tribal leaders that are choosing the membership. Not the tribe. So what they are doing is illegal. It does not fall under Santa Clara Pueblo vs martinez

  5. In the case of pala the tribe voted that margarita btittan was in fact 4/4th. But the chairman overruled the tribes decision and lowered margarita britians blood degree and dissenrolled members. So the tribe did not get to choose there membership. The chairman did

  6. The #TRUTH is the bands already made a decision and enrolled members and families, and ALL were recognized. Disenrollment is not custom or tradition and I'm sure our Ancestors are rolling over in disappointment. Most members who have been disenrolled in ALL cases were recognized members for life times. To think disenrollment is justifiable and ignoring recorded history is not traditional in anyway.

  9. How can a family from the reservation be against another family from the reservation and their main proof is a picture of a man they claim to be 100 percent Ku-me-i that looks not to be of Native descent. Show us one picture of an actual real Indian who has a full beard. You cant. The writings about San Pasqual are right. A mosh posh of frauds. I hope the BIA does go through the identitys. It will probably come full circle. Most don't belong there and money is the root of all evil. A lot of false identitys on that Rez. Can't hide everyone. Gonna be a reality check.

  11. These reporters that are reporting on these issues are not5 getting the full effect of what is really happening on the Reservations.
They are only getting one side, the councils side.
Just like the statements concerning the Pala issue made by Theresa Nieto are all a bunch of lies and she knows it.
She will only say what will protect her action and what Robert Smith tells her what to say.
There was no statements from the disenrolled which would bring up many questions that the Reporter could have asked and reported on but I assume he was satisfied with her statements, as always.
Shit she isn't even from Pala is she?
I heard she is from Morongo or some other place.
I would like to see a debate between Robert Smith and Willy Pink with the Reporter asking the questions.
Or better yet I would like to see Robert Smith lying face down in a casket.
