Chukchansi Don't Care about No Stinkin' Pandemic! Reopens June !

The despicable Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians, which is on our TOP 10 Indian Casinos... to avoid list will reopen on June 1.

The Chukchansi Economic Development Authority (CEDA) and the management team at Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino announced Friday the property will implement its first phase of reopening on June 1.
CEDA temporarily closed the property on March 20 due to public and tribal health precautions surrounding COVID-19. Since then, according to tribal officials, CEDA has continued to monitor the guidelines and recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), California Department of Public Health and the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC).

“Based on these guidelines, Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino will reopen in a limited capacity with added sanitation procedures, social distance practices and increased safety protocols to protect team members and guests,” said a press release issued by the tribe on Friday. “As part of these protective measures, team members and guests will be required to wear a mask and undergo a temperature screening before entering the casino property.”

The casino’s gaming floor will be open with fewer slot machines, going from 1,800 to 1,200 to increase distance between players.

All table games will have a maximum seating of three per table. Touchless transactions will continue throughout the property and all guests must be 21 and over to enter the resort and casino.

During this initial phase, according to the press release, “operational hours of venues will vary to ensure adequate time to sanitize every room, machine, door handle, counter, lobby and open space with hospital-grade sanitation products. The entire casino will be sprayed daily with an EPA registered broad-spectrum disinfectant that kills 99.9 percent of bacteria, including COVID-19.”

Select restaurants will reopen with limited menus and no buffet options. Restaurants will offer reduced seating, disposable menus and demonstrate increased spacing between tables and chairs. Hotel rooms aren’t available to the public for booking and all promotional events, slot tournaments and concerts have been postponed.

The Firehouse Lounge will remain closed, as will Serenity Springs Spa and valet parking has been temporarily suspended.

Putting the Noose on Tribal Citizenship: Modern Banishment and Disenrollment

Dr. David Wilkins, author of Dismembered has been discussing disenrollment for over a decade, case in point, this transcript from a 2008 Vine Deloria Jr. scholars program.  The link also has Dr. Wilkins on video.  Please, take the time to view it.  Learn, so that you can teach.

'Disenrollment' is a legal term of our art devised in the 1930s under the IRA in Indian Country that have increased dramatically in recent years. This issue -- the literal, physical reduction in the size of our nations goes to the heart of Fanon and Deloria's queries to the essence and meaning of Indigenous membership or citizenship or clanship or whatever term you're comfortable with and directly deals with social justice, civil rights and human rights in Indian Country. Native nations, as one of our inherent powers of governance, retain the right to remove, to exclude or to disenroll people from our nations, from our lands and from our membership rolls; both legally and culturally enrolled citizens and non-Indian and non-member Indian residents as well.

But it wasn't until I read a 1996 Federal Court of Appeals decision, Poodry v. Tonawanda Band of Seneca, which held that several Seneca, who had been banished, did indeed have recourse under federal law to test the legality of their tribal government's actions and that's what convinced me to take a closer look at this issue. This case raised a sticky question of whether Native individuals had the right to use non-Indian courts to contest what their nation had done to them in regards to their membership status. And this -- as I eluded to at the outset of my remarks -- is one of those areas where it's becoming clear that some federal courts are willing to intervene in these matters because of the importance of membership or citizenship to those facing banishment or disenrollment. As the court said in Poodry, "˜Banishment was indeed a severe enough punishment

Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Need More Than ONE DAY of Awareness

ONE DAY IS NOT ENOUGH, PLEASE SHARE
#MMIWG  Missing Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls get little national press.

UPDATED to add this new news on legislation from Sen. Mike Crapo:

While recognizing information on the number of missing Native Americans in the United States is limited, the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs included these alarming statistics in a report on S. 227, Savanna’s Act. The legislation is named for Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, a 22-year-old member of the Spirit Lake Tribe of North Dakota murdered in 2017. The Committee reported, “While Savanna’s tragic death became widespread news, many other Native Americans go missing or are murdered each year.” However, DOJ and the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ Office of Justice Services (BIA-OJS) told the Committee that many of those cases go unreported or unresolved.

Tribal and Administration witnesses also informed the Committee that the increased coordination and communication between law enforcement agencies outlined in S. 227 would improve the response to cases of missing or murdered American Indian and Alaska Natives. I co-sponsored Savanna’s Act to improve response to cases involving missing or murdered Native Americans:

The bipartisan legislation would direct the DOJ to formulate new guidelines for addressing and reporting cases involving missing and murdered Native Americans;

Tribal access to federal crime information databases would be improved; and

Certain federal agencies would be required to seek recommendations from Tribes on enhancing the safety of Native women.

TASIN Responds to Gavin Newsom's Plea to Keep Casinos Closed

Image result for blackjack images

CA Governor Gavin Newsom wants tribes to rethink their opening up during this pandemic.  Tribes say: NO

Jacob Mejia says:

“For tribes, their gaming facilities are essential businesses, as they represent the only means of government revenues for healthcare, public safety, education and more,” said Jacob Mejia, a spokesman for the Tribal Alliance of Sovereign Indian Nations, which represents several Inland Empire casinos. “They are extensions of tribal government, not corporate entities driven by stock prices. It will be up to individual tribal governments to determine the appropriate time and controls under which to reopen.”

CARES ACT COMPLAINT:CALIFORNIA TRIBES SUFFERING from Lack of Population!

Image result for steve mnuchin
Treasury Secretary
Steve Mnuchin
Indianz.com has the story of the CA Tribes whining that their small populations don't allow them to get a fair share of the BILLIONS made available to tribes. Well YEAH, you eliminated members to STEAL per capita, and didn't save for a rainy day?

Particularly rich, in this letter from TASIN and CNIGA this passage:

The population-based formula chosen by Treasury for its distribution of the initial $4.8 billion is particularly inequitable for California tribes because of the legacy of the genocide endured by California tribes,” the Indian nations write. “That history is the ugly backdrop to the small tribal populations that we see today in the state.”

After laughing from this, I had to think, are they blind?  It's like a kid who kills his parents and tries to go free because he's an orphan...

Some of these tribes in CA have decimated their own populations!

Chukchansi; 50%
Pechanga:    20% +
PALA             20%
Redding:       10%+
yes, there's more, you can read about tribal disenrollments  and learn about the corruption, abuse and shameful behavior.

We wrote a letter to the feds about how each tribe should be looked at individually

TASIN, who trampled on another tribe's sovereignty, while at a meeting at the Pechanga Resort & Casino, a disenrolling tribe, was instrumental in crafting the letter.

CNIGA as well, who opposed Indian Civil Rights, remember?

REDDING RANCHERIA HITS PAUSE BUTTON on New Casino Project

healthyshasta.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Re...
HORRIBLE TRIBE, can't make money during coronavirus times.  KRCR has the full story

The despicable Redding Rancheria has asked the corrupt  Bureau of Indian Affairs to put a review of a proposed casino along I-5 on hold after concerns were raised by county and local officials. Mike Hollowell, Tribal Attorney, Redding Rancheria confirmed the request Wednesday.

In a statement, Redding Rancheria officials said "Redding Rancheria has requested that the Bureau of Indian Affairs pause the environmental review process for the I-5 casino relocation project. We believe that the City and County’s opposition to the project has caused concern among federal decision-makers within the Trump administration and may prove insurmountable. Redding Rancheria regrets that this opposition will postpone many job opportunities and other economic benefits that the project would have otherwise provided our local community. We will continue to try to work with our local leaders as we monitor the long-term plan for the I-5 casino relocation project."
